Advanced Back-Up RateThe Advanced Back-up Rate times the delivery of the breaths taken by the patient to ensure breaths are taken at the patient’s natural rate. By doing so, the unit will automatically know when to provide supportive back-up for spontaneous breathing. Servo-ventilation (SV)Central sleep apneas have long been a point of contention for physicians, clinicians, and patients during BiPAP therapy. Patient’s experience central apneas when the brain doesn’t send a signal to the muscles that control breathing. Unlike obstructive sleep apnea in which breathing is obstructed and can be easily detected and treated, central apneas need to be treated more delicately. The Respironics BiPAP autoSV Advanced system supervises the air flow, determines if the apnea is a central apnea, and affectively treats more complex apneas such as central apneas. The unit quickly alleviates and/or stabilizes the abnormal breathing once the central apnea is indentified.
